Beginning 1 April 2015, Malaysia Airlines’ customers are subject to the 6% Goods & Services Tax (GST) on applicable goods and services supplied by the national carrier.
This implementation adheres to the Government of Malaysia’s announcement during the tabling of its Budget 2014 on 25 October 2013.
GST will be replacing the company’s existing sales tax and service tax, the airline said.
In order to be fully compliant, Malaysia Airlines will be enhancing its tax invoices issued to customers to enable them to claim GST with input tax credits, where entitled, the company added in a statement.
There is now a Malaysia Airlines’ GST Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) online for enquiries. Malaysia Airlines’ call centre at 1300 88 3000 for local calls is also open. Alternatively, customers can visit the Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s website.
