The Choithrams UAE retail chain has launched its 2016 Ramadan Charity Campaign with MasterCard & Awqaf and Minors’ Affairs Foundation (AMAF) Salma at its Dubai stores.
Salma is an initiative by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, UAE.
It is a waqf (a shari'ah-compliant endowment) aimed at making food-related donations, including zakat, sadaqah, qurbani and adahi, more accessible and efficient. It achieves this through the provision of non-branded long-life meals of 100%-certified halal food to victims of man-made or natural disasters.
The initiative is named in honour of the memory of Salma Al Sharhaan (1934 to 2014), who was the UAE's first Emirati nurse. She nd started her career in the rural and mountainous areas of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, paving the way for other Emirati women to join the profession.
Till 10 July, visit the nearest Choithrams to donate a meal to the needy.
