Requests to operate Hajj flights into KSA accepted till mid-March

The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) of the KSA is currently accepting requests for the operation of Hajj flights for the 2017 (1438) season.

Arrivals for Hajj flights begin 24 July, and end on 26 August. Departures begin 4 September for domestic flights, 5 September for GCC flights, and 6 September for chartered flights to other countries. The last day of the departure phase is 5 October.

Requests to operate flights during specific times must be submitted not later than 14 March for slot allocation.

Turkish Airlines adds more flights to Saudi Arabia

Turkish Airlines has launched new flights from the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW), Ankara Esenboga and Trabzon airports to key Saudi Arabian cities including Riyadh, Jeddah and Medina.

All three routes - between Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW)-Jeddah (JED), between Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW)-Riyadh (RUH) and Ankara Esenboga (ESB)-Medina (MED) - will each operate on a schedule of seven flights weekly.

The SAW-MED route is now operated four times a week and the TZX-RUH route is thrice weekly.

Turkish Airlines flies to seven destinations in Saudi Arabia. From Istanbul Ataturk Airport (IST), Turkish Airlines currently operates 21 weekly frequencies to Jeddah, and 14-weekly frequencies to both Medina and Riyadh. There are also 10-weekly frequencies (14 as of June 2016) from IST and seven weekly frequencies from SAW to Dammam. The airline flies seven times weekly from IST to Yanbu, five times weekly from IST to Al Qassim and three times weekly frequencies from IST to Taif.

Etihad Airways creates prayer areas for Muslim guests

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has created prayer areas for Muslim passengers on new fleets of aircraft which will be delivered later this year.

According to Etihad, the prayer areas can be curtained off for privacy and are equipped with a real-time electronic qibla-finder to show the exact direction of Mecca based on the aircraft’s geographical position.

The areas will be available on its new Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft in the economy and business classes. Initial destinations to be served by the A380 and 787 aircraft are listed here.
