Wego, the No. 1 travel app and the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), has announced a strategic partnership with the KSA Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to introduce a fully integrated digital platform designed to enhance and simplify the umrah for pilgrims worldwide.

The collaboration marks a significant step in advancing KSA's vision of delivering a seamless, digitally-enabled pilgrimage experience, Wego said. The new platform is designed to redefine how umrah services are accessed and delivered. The agreement brings together Wego's travel technology and extensive regional reach with the kingdom's trusted network of licensed umrah service providers to offer pilgrims a streamlined, end-to-end booking experience.

Specifically, Wego will leverage its expertise in travel search, payments, and digital distribution to manage marketing, sales, and customer transactions, while trusted, licenced umrah service providers focus on delivering high-quality, on-ground services. Through a single, intuitive flow, travellers can access flight bookings, verified hotel bookings, licenced ground services, and facilitated umrah visa request submissions, ensuring a more transparent, efficient, and reliable journey from planning to arrival. All visa issuance is conducted by the relevant authorities in KSA.

The KSA Ministry of Hajj and Umrah plays a key regulatory and supervisory role in overseeing the umrah ecosystem, ensuring compliance, quality standards, and a consistent experience for pilgrims, while licensed operators are responsible for service delivery and operational execution.

This model enhances operational efficiency while ensuring consistency and accountability across the entire pilgrim experience. All transactions are securely processed in Saudi riyals at the time of booking, reinforcing transparency and eliminating unexpected on-ground costs.

Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer at Wego said: "Through our collaboration with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, we are enabling a more seamless and transparent umrah journey powered by technology. By integrating flights, facilitated visa request processes, verified accommodations, and licensed ground services into one unified platform, we are enhancing the overall pilgrim experience while creating new growth opportunities for umrah service providers across Saudi Arabia."

The platform introduces three service tiers:

Essential

Core services including airport reception and dedicated on-ground support.

Standard

Enhanced convenience with intercity transportation between key locations such as Makkah and Madinah.

Premium

A more personalised journey featuring private transfers, curated sightseeing experiences, and round-the-clock support.

To further strengthen trust and reliability, the platform incorporates clear consumer protection policies, including flexible booking modifications and refund eligibility under defined conditions. These measures are designed to provide peace of mind while maintaining operational efficiency for service providers.

Additionally, multilingual support capabilities and dedicated customer service channels ensure accessibility for pilgrims from diverse global markets, reinforcing Wego's commitment to inclusivity and service excellence.

As part of this initiative, Wego is inviting qualified umrah service providers to participate in the platform.

Details

The platform www.wego.com/umrah will be ready for launch in June 2026, aligning with the beginning of the umrah season.

AlUla in KSA has partnered with Wego, the travel app and the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), to help place the ancient oasis city firmly in the spotlight as one of the region's most extraordinary destinations for culture, art, history and natural heritage.

The collaboration will showcase the area as a must-visit destination. A premier destination for exploration and discovery, AlUla blends 200,000 years of human history and culture with contemporary art, all celebrated through a heritage that offers immersive experiences, from local storytelling to craft workshops.

Powered by Wego's data-driven reach across MENA, the new campaign will guide users from discovering AlUla's attributes and attractions to booking their trip through seamless access to flights, accommodation, and uniquely experiences.

Mamoun Hmidan, Chief Business Officer, Wego said: "We are proud to partner with AlUla in supporting Saudi Arabia's evolving tourism landscape. AlUla offers travellers an extraordinary combination of heritage and natural beauty, and through Wego's regional footprint and performance-driven campaigns, we are accelerating demand and driving tangible results for the destination."

Travellers can experience living history at the restored heritage district of AlUla Old Town, trace ancient inscriptions at Jabal Ikmah, stargaze beneath some of the clearest night skies in the region, or relax in desert resorts.

AlUla is home to Hegra, KSA's first UNESCO World Heritage Site. Monumental Nabataean tombs carved into rose-red sandstone are sited here. AlUla is also a year-round hub for culture, art, and lifestyle events, regularly hosting popular festivals such as Winter at Tantora, contemporary art installations at Desert X AlUla, sporting and endurance challenges, and wellness retreats set against dramatic natural backdrops.

Melanie de Souza, Executive Director of Destination Marketing at AlUla, added: "Partnering with Wego enables us to share AlUla's story with a highly engaged regional audience and meet growing GCC demand for immersive cultural experiences. As connectivity expands through AlUla International Airport, with year-round routes from carriers such as Qatar Airways and flydubai, access to the destination continues to grow. We invite travellers to experience AlUla as a vibrant living cultural landscape, where heritage, creativity, conservation, and regenerative development come together."

Flagship projects currently under development, including Wadi AlFann, the forthcoming global destination for Land Art, as well as new cultural institutions such as the AlUla Contemporary Art Museum and the incense road museum will further strengthen AlUla's position on the global cultural stage. At the same time, its growing collection of resorts and boutique hotels offers visitors high-end hospitality experiences that authentically connect with the destination's vibrant heritage and creative future.

Wego is also collaborating with the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA) to enhance how travellers across the region discover, explore, and plan trips to Türkiye. By integrating Türkiye's diverse tourism offerings into Wego's platform, travellers can seamlessly navigate iconic landmarks and lesser-known regions within a single, trusted travel ecosystem.

The partnership focuses on elevating destination discovery through richer content, deeper insights, and more intuitive trip planning.

Türkiye offers a compelling blend of ancient civilisations, Ottoman heritage, modern cities, Mediterranean and Aegean coastlines, and year-round travel appeal. Through Wego, travellers can discover experiences spanning Istanbul's historic neighbourhoods, Cappadocia's surreal landscapes, the coastal charm of Antalya and Bodrum, and the restorative thermal springs of Pamukkale, as well as emerging destinations that encourage deeper exploration.

Hmidan said: "Türkiye continues to resonate strongly with travellers across the MENA region because it offers such a rich mix of culture, nature, cuisine, and accessibility. Through our collaboration with the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency, we are enhancing how travellers discover and plan their journeys by bringing meaningful destination content and inspiration directly onto the Wego platform.

"This partnership supports smarter trip planning and encourages travellers to explore Türkiye more deeply, across regions and throughout the year."

According to Wego, there is growing demand from MENA travellers for destinations that combine cultural familiarity with diversity, accessibility, and flexibility. Sinan Seha Türkseven, GM, Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency said: "Partnering with Wego allows us to tap into a broad target audience across the Middle East and North Africa.

"We enjoy reaching out to consumers through a platform they already trust for travel planning. This collaboration supports our vision of presenting Türkiye as a destination that offers both cultural familiarity and depth, from historic cities and coastal regions to culinary routes and nature-based experiences. We look forward to welcoming more travellers to discover Türkiye's diversity across all seasons."

Travellers using Wego can access comprehensive destination information highlighting Türkiye's UNESCO World Heritage Sites, diverse culinary traditions, coastal escapes, and wellness experiences. Saudi designers put modest fashion on the international stage

Source: DERZA at Riyadh Fashion Week 2025.

Modest clothing has become a global style statement, thanks in large part to a new wave of Saudi designers. By blending tradition with modernity, they are rewriting the rules of fashion and setting trends that extend far beyond the Middle East, said the Saudi Tourism Authority.

No longer restricted to the traditional black, abayas now appear in a variety of colours, fabrics, and cuts. Hijabs, too, represent confidence and individuality, coming in silk, chiffon, or cotton with lively prints and new hues.

The message: women can honour their cultural roots while embracing their personal style. That balance between heritage and self-expression is the heart of Saudi fashion’s power.

Riyadh Fashion Week in October 2025 has emerged not merely as a regional event but as a global barometer for how fashion is evolving—especially for modest, culturally-rooted design. Vivienne Westwood’s debut capsule combined British couture with Saudi artisan embroidery, creating gowns that conveyed heritage through gold threads and delicate stitchwork while previewing the house’s Spring/Summer 2026 direction.

Local talents such as Tima Abid impressed with crystal-embroidered volumes and sculptural forms that blurred the lines between tradition and contemporary elegance, while Razan Alazzouni showcased her Monotone collection, featuring fluid, understated pieces that highlighted refinement over spectacle. Meanwhile, HINDAMME presented Hejaz, a collection highlighting the heritage of western Saudi in a contemporary style.

What Riyadh signals for 2026: a blending of grounded cultural identity with approachable global style, mirroring Indonesia’s own trajectory. This year, Indonesian designers are leaning into heritage with a light, wearable hand while global fashion looks increasingly to voices who can articulate culture through comfort, climate, and confidence, said the Authority.

For Indonesian travellers, exploring Saudi has become increasingly seamless, with simplified visa options and expanding flight connectivity. Holders of a valid UK, US, or Schengen visa, complete with an entry stamp from the issuing country, can apply for an e-visa or obtain a visa on arrival when travelling to KSA. Those travelling for umrah can also extend their journey beyond the holy cities.

HE Vice Minister of Culture Hamed Fayez affirmed that this agreement drives forward the partnership between the Ministry of Culture and RCU, paving the way to significantly enhance the presence of Saudi cultural identity in AlUla. He noted that AlUla seamlessly blends diverse natural landscapes with authentic heritage and thousands of years of history. It stands as an open-air museum and a powerful reflection of the human civilisations that have flourished across KSA land.

Abeer AlAkel, CEO of RCU, stated that the agreement significantly strengthens RCU's partnership with MoC and builds upon previous successes in areas of shared cultural interest. She added that this agreement represents a fundamental step for cultural development in AlUla, aligning with the cultural ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030, and will contribute to the integration of expertise and innovations at both national and global levels, empowering the cultural and knowledge-based economy.

The agreement outlines broad areas of cooperation, underscoring the joint development of cultural infrastructure in AlUla. This includes long-term planning, addressing development needs, and implementing initiatives to ensure the continuity and sustainability of cultural activities across the arts and heritage sectors.

It also supports the coordination of cultural events, festivals and initiatives across a wide spectrum of disciplines, including heritage, cinema, music, museums, culinary arts, visual arts, architecture, design and libraries. The agreement encourages closer cooperation between cultural institutions and RCU to facilitate the exchange of expertise and enhance the quality and diversity of cultural content in AlUla.

In addition, the MoC and RCU will support the development of community-focused, educational and professional programmes aimed at nurturing talent and enabling broader participation in the cultural sector at local, national and international levels. The agreement also seeks to stimulate the cultural economy, attract investment into creative industries, and support cultural entrepreneurs in establishing ventures in AlUla, driving inclusive economic growth and generating high-value employment anchored in creativity and knowledge.

The MoC and RCU have a strong history of collaboration. Successful initiatives include the Wadi AlFann Dialogue, the AlUla Future Culture Summit and the 2023 AlUla World Archaeology Summit. The two entities have also jointly supported the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historical Mosques and have worked together to expand cultural programming across AlUla. The scope of the agreements extend to initiatives supporting the growth of public and private cultural schools in AlUla.

The Cultural Investment Conference highlights culture as both a pillar of national identity and a promising investment opportunity. The annual two-day event positions culture as a sustainable economic engine by supporting innovation, fostering entrepreneurship, while serving as a meeting point to exchange expertise, explore innovative financing tools, and build international partnerships that advance sustainable cultural investment and the growth of creative industries.

Ministry of Hajj and Umrah warns of fines of up to SR100,000 for Hajj violations

Hajj without a permit
exposes individuals to penalties
and regulatory accountability.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in KSA has emphasised that an official permit to perform the Hajj for the 1446 AH season (2025) is compulsory. This requirement ensures the safety and security of pilgrims as they perform the rituals of the pilgrimage.

The ministry stressed that Hajj can only be performed by domestic pilgrims who have an official permit, and pilgrims from overseas with a regular Hajj visa. All other types of visas do not enable their holders to perform the pilgrimage. It also said that scams should be reported immediately.

The Ministry said that there are penalties against anyone who violates Hajj instructions, including those caught attempting to perform Hajj without a permit. Violators will be subject to a fine of up to SR20,000. The same fine will also be applied to holders of all types of visit visas if they enter or attempt to enter Makkah Al-Mukarramah or remain there during the period from 1 Dhu al-Qidah until the end of 14 Dhu al-Hijjah.

Those who aid violaters will also be punished, with fines going as high as as SR100,000. There are penalties for facilitating visit visas for individuals who perform or attempt to perform Hajj without a permit, or for transporting, sheltering, or concealing them. Fines will be multiplied according to the number of violaters.

Additional penalties include the deportation of trespassing residents and a 10-year ban from entering the country, as well as the confiscation of any land transportation vehicle proven to have been used in transporting holders of all types of visit visas to the city of Makkah Al-Mukarramah and the holy sites.

Vision Bank takes on Finastra's Islamic banking treasury solution

Vision Bank, a shari'ah-compliant, digital bank in KSA has launched the pilot phase of its banking operations after implementing Finastra Kondor and cloud-based managed services provided by DXC Technology. The implementation contributed to Vision Bank recently obtaining no objection from the Saudi Central Bank and launching the pilot phase of its banking operations.

Finastra's best-of-breed treasury trading system allowed the bank, formerly known as the Saudi Digital Bank, to upgrade its capabilities for asset and liability management, liquidity management, trading and investment, foreign exchange, capital adequacy and reserve management. The deployment of the solution on cloud also aligns with the digital bank's broader strategy of creating better user experiences while keeping pace with new demands.

"Our mission is to be a pioneer in the Saudi banking sector, relying on innovation and technology to provide seamless, shari'ah-compliant banking solutions that meet our customers' needs," said Abdul Shakeel Aidaroos, CEO at Vision Bank.

"To help us achieve this, we needed a robust treasury management system with cloud-based managed services that enable us to grow while mitigating risks. Finastra and DXC ensure that we can comply with current and upcoming regulations, drive business continuity and maximum availability, and scale the rollout of new products as needed. We are also contributing to the goals of the Financial Sector Development Program, one of the programmes of Saudi Vision 2030."

"Vision Bank's growth ambitions and customer-centric ethos align closely to the values we hold at Finastra," said Wissam Khoury, EVP, Treasury & Capital Markets at Finastra.

"The implementation of Kondor played a significant role in the bank's launch and digital transformation journey, providing the necessary agility to evolve with new demands and take advantage of the opportunities presented by Saudi Arabia's financial services sector. Working alongside DXC, it has been a pleasure to help Vision Bank reach this milestone and we look forward to its ongoing success."

"DXC is proud to have partnered with Finastra and Vision Bank to successfully deliver Kondor as the bank's fully hosted and managed treasury system," said Anthony Hammond, Global Finastra Lead at DXC.

"This collaboration underscores our commitment to driving innovation in financial technology, providing a secure, scalable and future-ready solution that enhances the bank's treasury operations."

Changing perceptions about KSA as a destination

Source: YouGov website. Statistics on public opinion about KSA.
Source: YouGov website. Statistics on public opinion about KSA.

Recent data from YouGov, based on surveys conducted across 17 international markets*, has revealed that half of all global respondents have seen a change in their perception of KSA as a travel destination over the past twelve months. These respondents are divided, with 15% reporting a more positive view and 15% a more negative one.

Globally however, Eastern countries generally favour tourism to KSA more than Western countries, YouGov said. Among Asians, perceptions of the country as a travel destination have become more positive in the past twelve months. Notably, 42% of Indians, 37% of Indonesians, and 31% of Hong Kong residents reported that their perception of KSA has become more positive, compared to 54% of UAE residents, where the positive sentiment is the strongest. In contrast, many Westerners have not changed their view.

Globally, opinions on travelling to KSA are divided, with nearly half stating they have neither considered visiting in the past nor thought of doing so in the future.

Compared to the past 12 months, respondents worldwide are more likely to travel to KSA for leisure rather than for business. Residents of the UAE expressed the strongest interest in both types of travel, though with a stronger inclination towards leisure. Indians and Indonesians also showed significant interest, primarily for leisure travel.

YouGov data revealed that cultural tourism is expected to be the top factor influencing future visits to KSA, as cited by 19% of global consumers. This appeal is particularly strong among Hong Kong residents (39%), Indians (34%), UAE residents and Mexicans (31% each). Other reasons for travelling to KSA include luxury getaways, religious tourism, and adventure activities (11% each). Indonesians, in particular, are highly motivated to visit for religious purposes (60%), surpassing even UAE residents (45%).

The country's recent investments in sports infrastructure and events appear to have generated interest, with nearly one in ten global consumers (8%) indicating they are likely to visit for sporting events. The highest interest is seen in Hong Kong, where 23% consider it a key attraction.

*YouGov Surveys: Serviced provides quick survey results from nationally representative or targeted audiences in multiple markets. The data is based on surveys of adults aged 18+ years in 17 markets with sample sizes varying between 510 and 2,011 for each market. All surveys were conducted online during November 2024. Data from each market uses a nationally representative sample apart from Mexico and India, which use urban representative samples, and Indonesia and Hong Kong, which use online representative samples.

The 2nd Islamic Arts Biennale, titled And All That Is In Between, has opened in Jeddah.

The Islamic Arts Biennale is the world's only biennial exhibition dedicated to the arts of Islamic civilisation. The global project highlights the contemporary relevance of tradition through the presence of historical objects and new artistic commissions. By juxtaposing historical objects from Islamic cultures with contemporary art, the Biennale explores how faith is experienced, expressed, and celebrated through feeling, thinking, and making.

The 2025 edition of the Biennale brings together loans from over 30 of the world's leading institutions, including the Vatican Apostolic Library (Vatican City), the Louvre Museum (Paris), and the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), as well as collections devoted specifically to Islamic arts and cultures, such as the Ahmed Baba Institute of Higher Learning and Islamic Research (Timbuktu), the Museum of Islamic Art (Doha), and the Manuscript Institution of Türkiye (Istanbul).

Additionally, the Biennale has partnered with institutions from across KSA, offering visitors a chance to see objects and works of art from Makkah and Madinah.

The show spans five exhibition halls and outdoor areas with 100,000 sq m of exhibition space, and Opresents more than 500 objects in dialogue with contemporary artworks. Over 30 artists from KSA, the wider Gulf region, and around the world are represented. Of note is the first-ever display of the entire kiswah—the cloth that covers the Ka'aba (كسوة الكعبة)—outside of Makkah.

The Islamic Arts Biennale takes place in Jeddah at the Western Hajj Terminal of King Abdulaziz International Airport. The exhibition ends May 25, 2025.

IFAT to open in KSA in 2026

Messe München will be holding its first-ever trade fair in KSA in 2026 with IFAT, the trade fair for environmental technologies. A memorandum of understanding was signed in late January with the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) in KSA.

The trade fair, the 13th in the IFAT stable, will be held at the Riyadh Front Exhibition & Conference Center from January 26 to 28, 2026, and will bring together the key players in waste, water and various environmental technologies from the Middle East and North Africa region.

"Strong and successful international business also secures the economic future of our trade fairs in Munich," explained Messe München Co-CEOs Stefan Rummel and Dr Reinhard Pfeiffer.

"We see great potential in Saudi Arabia and are looking forward to the first IFAT in the Middle East."

The trade fair is an important part of the KSA government's Vision 2030 programme, through which it is investing more heavily in the sustainable development of the economy. This development offers great growth potential for environmental technologies and the circular economy.

Goals include 91% source segregated waste, 79% of waste prepared for recycling and 90% diversion from landfills by 2040. For the water sector, desalinating seawater, expanding water networks and building wastewater treatment plants and associated infrastructure to meet national needs are all being accomplished while ensuring the sustainable extraction and consumption of this valuable resource, and protecting the natural environment of the Kingdom.

Hajj 2024 ends

The KSA Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has celebrated the completion of the Hajj season for 2024 (1445) at an event honouring distinguished Hajj Offices and award recipients. The government also shared a blueprint and timeline for the 2025 (1446) Hajj season.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the KSA Minister of Health, Fahd Al-Jalajel, announced 465,000 medical services were conducted for pilgrims, including 141,000 services provided to unauthorised pilgrims. The official death toll is 1,301, of which 83% were unauthorised to perform Hajj and thus unable to take advantage of facilities available to authorised pilgrims. Many of the unauthorised pilgrims would have walked long distances during a heatwave.

Al-Jalajel disclosed that all of the dead had been identified and their families notified.

The SPA separately reported that the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has begun issuing umrah visas. The move traditionally begins immediately after the Hajj season.

Jeddah Historic Program finds fragments dating back to the early Islamic era

Source: Jeddah Historic District Program. Aerial view of the excavated segment of the north fortification wall of historic Jeddah.

The Jeddah Historic District Program, in cooperation with the Heritage Commission, has uncovered 25,000 fragments, the oldest of which dates from the first two centuries AH (from the 7th to the 8th centuries AD).

The fieldwork was conducted at Othman bin Affan Mosque (may Allah be pleased with him), Al-Shona, the Eastern Moat, and a segment of the Northern Wall, under the framework of the Archaeology Project which is supervised by Jeddah Historic District Program.

The announcement of the archeological discoveries is part of the efforts the Historic Jeddah Revival Project, which was launched by HRH the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz of KSA. The Archaeology Project aims to preserve national antiquities and archaeological sites, unveil the history embedded in the kingdom's lands, and support Historic Jeddah as a cultural and touristic centre to further achieve the Saudi Vision (2030).

Archaeological survey and excavations conducted in November 2020 found 11,405 pottery shards which weigh a total of 293 kg, 11,360 animal bones totalling 107 kg, 1,730 shells (32 kg). In addition, 685 building materials were found, weighing 87 kg, as well as 5 kg of glass artifacts in 187 pieces, and 7 kg of metal artifacts (71 pieces).

Archaeological investigations in Othman bin Affan Mosque—may Allah be pleased with him—showed that the oldest items dated back to the first two centuries AH, including the early Islamic era, the Umayyad era, the Abbasid era, then the Mamluk era, and on to modern times (i.e., the early 15th century AH up to the the 21st century AD).

Analyses conducted on ebony pillars found on the sides of the mihrab* at the mosque revealed that these pillars likely date back to the first two centuries AH. The wood has been identified as being from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) which highlights the far-reaching trade connections of Historic Jeddah.

The artifacts discovered in Othman bin Affan Mosque include ceramic vessels and pieces of high-quality porcelain, among of which are some made in Jiangxi that potentially date back to the 10th and 13th centuries AH (the 16th to 19th centuries AD). Some of the older pottery fragments date back as far as the Abbasid era.

At Al-Shona, the chronology of the site dates back at least to the 13th century AH (19th century AD) with indications of archaeological remains that could be as old as the 10th century AH (16th century AD). Numerous pottery shards have been found at the site, comprising porcelain and other ceramics from Europe, Japan, and China, dating back to the 13th and the 14th centuries AH (the 19th to 20th centuries AD).

In addition, excavations at Al-Kidwah (Bab Makkah, or Makkah gate) revealed parts of the Eastern Moat which most likely date back to the late 12th century AH (late 18th century AD).

Moreover, several tombstones of Mangabi stone, marble, and granite were also found in different locations in Historic Jeddah. The tombstones have inscriptions of names, epitaphs, and verses of the Quran which likely date back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries AH (8th and 9th centuries AD), and are still under study currently.

Archaeological studies of the four historical sites included excavations, radiocarbon analysis, soil analyses, geophysical surveys, and scientific studies of the discovered artifacts. Additionally, more than 250 wood samples were taken from 52 buildings and studied in specialised international laboratories for identification and dating. Furthermore, the international archival research resulted in the collection of more than 984 historical documents on Historic Jeddah, including historical maps and drawings of the Jeddah city wall, Al-Shona, and other parts of Historic Jeddah, which are now being studied.

The Jeddah Historic District Program, in cooperation with the Heritage Commission, supervised the documentation, registration, and preservation of archaeological artifacts discovered in Historic Jeddah, and listed the finds in the National Archaeological Register. Scientific databases were also created to protect and preserve the information about the discovered artifacts.

The work of the Historic Jeddah project began in Jumada Al-Awwal, January 2020, with the preparation of exploratory studies and a geophysical survey across the four locations, including the Othman bin Affan mosque, Al-Shona, a segment of the Northern Wall, and Al-Kidwah.

"In just a matter of days, millions of Muslims from every corner of the globe will raise their voices to recite the powerful Talbiyah chant," Al Rabiah said.

"As Hajj draws near, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prepares to welcome pilgrims from all walks of life. With great pride and honour, we invite pilgrims to join us in the largest Islamic gathering in history."

Al Rabiah expressed gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, for their constant follow-up on the services provided to the pilgrims.

Some of the numbers he shared include that Mina, which hosts the world's largest tent city, will accommodate 2,192,000 pilgrims. He said that 1.7 million airline bookings had been made, and that more than 32,000 healthcare practitioners, both male and female, will be on site to provide their services.

Al Rabiah added: "With a well-connected road and train network, shuttle bus services, and integrated infrastructure, pilgrims are guaranteed a seamless travel experience, regardless of their language or unique needs."

The eco-friendly Al Mashaaer Al Mugaddassah Metro line consists of 17 trains stopping at nine stations. It has an estimated operating capacity of 72,000 passengers per hour.

Proactive planning has historically allowed KSA to avoid food supply shortages, including during the second Gulf War in 1990, the food price crisis in 2008, and the deterioration of food supply chains in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

This year, products from 1,294 food factories in KSA will secure more than 120 million meals for at least 2 million pilgrims in six days under the supervision of the KSA Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

KSA's strategy to achieve food security involves 11 programmes, including the Saudi Agricultural Investment Abroad Program, with the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) completing a SR4.65 B acquisition of 35.43% of Singapore's Olam Agri company in December 2022, in addition to the acquisition of two meat processing factories in Australia.

Investment in food manufacturing amounts to about 7% of the total investments made in the Saudi industrial sector, and more than SR94 B has been invested to operate 11.35% of the factories in KSA, according to official data.

KSA has a megaproject to increase its vegetation cover, which has effectively contributed to achieving self-sufficiency in agricultural products such as dates with a sufficiency rate of 125%, and vegetables whose sufficiency rates have reached 87%. This is in addition to possessing the Middle East's largest wheat and flour storage capacity, with a daily milling capacity of 3.3 million tons.

Water security is also a priority. KSA currently engages in seawater desalination and manages 563 dams. Another 1,000 new dams to enhance the utilisation of rainwater are planned.
