Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate of Oman, has been working on several initiatives as part of its Tadhamun corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative that coincide with Ramadhan. The Tadhamun programme underscores the bank’s commitment to complement the government’s efforts in social responsibility and thereby strengthen the hands of needy segments in society.

In early June the bank presented hearing aids to children with hearing disabilities. The ceremony, hosted by the Omani Society for the Hearing Impaired, marked the Arab Deaf Week under the auspices of Dr Salim bin Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of the Information Technology Authority.

Ahmed Al Barami, DGM – Chairman’s Office, said: “In line with the Let’s Do More vision, Bank Muscat is committed to supporting people with special needs to equip them to join mainstream society. The support to hearing impaired children is yet another affirmation that Bank Muscat is a true partner in nation-building. Children in the age group of one to four were selected as beneficiaries due to the positive impact of early treatment of hearing disabilities. Leading by example, the bank also aims to motivate other corporates to support physically challenged people in the country.”

Sultan bin Nasser Al Amri, President of the Omani Society for the Hearing Impaired, thanked Bank Muscat for the support extended to children with hearing disabilities. “The generous gesture by the bank will go a long way in equipping the children to be successful in life. We are optimistic that the fine example set by the bank will be emulated by other corporates, benefiting needy segments of society,” Al Amri said.

Bank employees and volunteers subsequently travelled across the wilayats of Barka, Musannah, Suwaiq and Rustaq in South Batinah governorate beginning 9 June to distribute essential household goods and kitchen appliances as part of the programme to beneficiary families identified by the Ministry of Social Development. AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Bank Muscat Chief Executive, flagged off the Tadhamun convoy of vehicles. The distributions will be carried out through the holy month along with Eidiyah* provided to the beneficiary families as a gift from the bank’s employees.

Bank Muscat attaches great importance to sustainable development activities and is the first Omani bank to establish a full-fledged CSR department. Considered a core value, the CSR policy reflects the bank’s commitment to all segments of society with the aim of national development and progress. The bank is of the view that its social responsibility is not merely participation in charitable works, but responsibility towards all-round development of society and nation.

AbdulRazak Ali Issa said: “The Tadhamun initiative is a fine example of the public-private partnership launched by the bank in association with the Ministry of Social Development to strengthen the hands of beneficiaries. Through the Tadhamun programme, the bank seeks to reiterate its dynamic vision, striving to reach out to different segments and 'doing more' for society as a whole. Committed to sustainable development, the bank utilises every opportunity to reiterate partnership in building the nation by creating opportunities for individuals and communities to grow and prosper. The bank works closely with local communities with the aim of improving living standards in a manner that complements the national economy.”
