ISESCO re-elects Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri as Director General for another two terms of office

The 12th General Conference of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) unanimously re-elected Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri for two consecutive three-year terms of office in appreciation of his outstanding efforts for ISESCO in promoting its standing, asserting its role in the Islamic and international scenes, enhancing its capacities and developing its organs and programmes.

The resolution was issued in Baku, Azerbaijan. The 4th General Conference  in Rabat, Morocco in 1991 unanimously elected Dr Altwaijri as Director General of ISESCO. Dr Altwaijri was subsequently unanimously re-elected at the 5th General Conference held in 1994 in Damascus, Syria. He was again unanimously re-elected for two terms of office by the 6th General Conference, in Riyadh, KSA, in 1997, and similarly during the 8th General Conference in Tehran, Iran in 2003 and at the 10th General Conference in Tunis, Tunisia, in 2009.

Dr Altwaijri was born in Riyadh in 1950. As well as being a graduate from King Saud University in Riyadh, Dr Altwaijri holds a PhD in curricula from Oregon University in the United States. He is the Secretary-General of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), and is also a member of several Islamic and international academic and intellectual institutions. He holds many honorary doctorate degrees from different universities.
