Asatizah Recognition Board Singapore adds two members

The Asatizah Recognition Board (ARB) of Singapore has added two new members, Ustaz Mokson Mahori and Ustaz Ziyaudeen Ahmed Sirajuddeen, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has shared on its Facebook page. Asatizah are religious teachers.

The ARB supervises and monitors the general conduct of all asatizah in Singapore to ensure that their teachings are relevant and contextualised for the Singapore Muslim community. With this development the ARB aims to ensure continuity and stability while maintaining balance and diversity in a team that is well equipped to preside over the Asatizah Recognition Scheme (ARS).

In his address, Chief Executive of Muis, Haji Abdul Razak Maricar stressed that it is important for the ARB to be impartial and objective in applying the code of ethics, and that Muis will continue to support the ARB in the implementation of the ARS.

Chairman of the ARB Ustaz Ali Haji Mohamed said that asatizah in general are very positive and support the need for a mandatory ARS. He hopes that the ARS will help to instil a culture of learning amongst asatizah and is keen for the scheme to be an example for other Muslim communities in the continuous development of religious teachers.

The 12 ARB members are all senior asatizah from a range of backgrounds and represent different sectors of the religious landscape. They will serve for three years, till 31 December 2019.
