Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in Jordan will be holding iftar buffets with Ramadhan sweets, juices, ambient gathering spaces, traditional games and live music come Ramadhan (around May 6), as well as giving back to society during the month.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in Jordan for the third year on a row has partnered with Tkiyet Um Ali as part of its CSR – A kilo of kindness, part of the SHIINE sustainability programme, to send food parcels to less fortunate families.
“Ramadhan is a special time for us to give back to the community, as well as to reflect on the many things we are grateful for. Wonderful guests and amazing team members of course, but also the opportunity we have to do something we are passionate about: whether it’s creating traditional delicacies in the kitchen, or providing atmospheric gathering spaces,” said Michael Nugent, Accor VP of Operations, Levant and Pakistan.
Among Mövenpick Jordan’s highlights for the month of Ramadhan are:
Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea
Al Saraya Restaurant’s iftar buffet features seasonal dishes, hot and cold mezzeh, live cooking stations, juices and desserts. A complimentary iftar voucher is given for the purchase of 10 or more prepaid vouchers. Groups can take advantage of the entrance to Ramadan Nights at the Village Square. After iftar, Valley Café continues the Ramadhan spirit with oud entertainment, cards, fresh juices, oriental desserts, and traditional hot beverages.
Mövenpick Resort & Residences Aqaba
A traditional iftar spread complemented with international dishes and Ramadan juices will greet guests who break their fast at Palm Court Restaurant in Aqaba. With views of the shore, Aqaba’s fine seafood restaurant Red Sea Grill will be serving a four-course iftar set menu alongside Ramadhan juices.
Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay Aqaba
Fresh shrak bread can be had at Najel restaurant’s authentic iftar buffet. Middle Eastern dishes, international classics and desserts are highlights, with Ramadhan juices are poured by Juice Man himself. For àla carte delicacies, Siraj and Mello will offer background music, live oud tones and argileh (shisha).
Groups of 10 or more can enjoy special iftar and suhoor packages across all Mövenpick’s resorts in Jordan. Mövenpick is also offering value Ramadhan room rates and family packages.

Royal meal on selected MAS flights for Eid
In conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Eid al-Fitr), Malaysia Airlines will be serving a royal menu by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and his consort, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Raja Puan Muda Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.
The royal dishes will be served onboard selected flights from 15 to 17 June 2018.
The menu is part of the airline’s Best of Malaysia initiative, under which the airline introduces authentic and traditional Malaysian meals in-flight and on the ground.
The kurma daging Perlis will be served to passengers flying First and Business Class on MH2 and MH4 from Kuala Lumpur to London, UK, as well as Business Class on MH150 from Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah, KSA and MH112 and MH196 from Kuala Lumpur to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Business Class passengers flying from Kuala Lumpur to Sabah, Sarawak and ASEAN destinations will also get to enjoy the dish.
The recipe is a favourite at Istana Arau, the official residence of the Perlis royal family, and is being served onboard as part of an initiative to promote Perlis cuisine both locally and internationally. The initiative was personally spearheaded by the royal couple themselves.
Passengers flying Economy Class on the above routes can also savour the kurma ayam Perlis, which features the same recipe but with chicken instead of beef. Both dishes are available on the first three days of Aidilfitri.
Alongside this, and to coincide with the Aidilfitri holidays, Malaysia Airlines passengers will be able to receive the special kids activity pack or Pilot Parker baby bib when they book their child meal beforehand. The Pilot Parker activity pack includes an activity book, stickers, and stationery to keep children occupied on-board. These items will be available until 30 June 2018.
For Aidilfitri, Malaysia Airlines is also providing traditional Raya meals for lunch and dinner at the Golden Lounge. Guests can savour nasi tomato, lemang and rendang, and sayur lodeh, as well as tart nenas, kuih bahulu and dodol before their flights.
Ahead of the Hari Raya holidays, Malaysia Airlines would like to advise passengers to arrive early at KLIA. Those travelling this Hari Raya are encouraged to arrive 3 hours prior to their scheduled time of departure to avoid congestion. Passengers may also check in 48-hours prior to their flight via web check-in at www.malaysiaairlines.com or via MHmobile.
To ensure seamless travel, MAS highlights that:
- Check-in counters will close 60 minutes before flight departure.
- Immigration and security clearance is an estimated 45 minutes.
- Have the required travelling documents ready.
- The boarding gate will close 20 minutes prior to departure.

Sultan Mosque Ramadhan Bazaar 2017 offers quality choices
Every year there is a small Ramadhan bazaar outside Sultan Mosque in Singapore. This year's Ramadan Sultan Bazaar 2017 featured a range of different cuisines, with favourite appearing to be the satay burger stall. At close to sunset, just before Muslims break their fast, much of the food had been sold however. Here's the visit in pictures:

The House of Lemang offers the specially-prepared cylinders of rice in a bento-style takeaway together with delicacies such as serunding kelapa, a dish comprising dry grated flavoured coconut (the food in the tray).
Editor's comment: Expect to spend S$6 and upwards for takeaways, which is a little pricier than normal bazaars. The food is a cut above normal bazaar food however. I tried the Turkish food (S$7) and it was delicious with a satisfying portion given.

A list of the stalls at the bazaar.
Classic pasar malam (night market) foods such as nasi lemak, fried bee hoon and noodles were available.
The intriguingly-named laksa kampong had extra thick laksa noodles.
Bob's offers lamb shank, lamb shoulder and beef ribs from S$18 upwards.
Standee for the satay burger stall. In addition to burgers, wraps as well as satay goreng in bento boxes were offered. The same stall also sold sausage-based snacks.
Little packs of kueh (traditional snacks) were on sale at S$2 a box.
There were several shawarma stalls. All had depleted columns of meat.
Makcik Magic, S$10, is a drink made of 'jambu jampi juice'. The jambu fruit are water apples while jampi is the word for 'incantation'.
The main Makcik stall - which looks to be selling chicken - had already closed for the day. #Ayamdone, the sign says.
The Turkish stall had a number of rice dishes with lamb for about S$7. You can ask for Turkish bread instead. The lamb is very good.

Mandhi rice from Tunisia was on sale.
Yusof Power Briyani Dum offered in huge containers.
One of the few sanely priced stalls in the bazaar was a fruit juice stall with juices from S$3 upwards.
Coconut shakes included western flavours such as cookies and cream as well as Southeast Asian flavours including Thai milk tea and gula melaka (coconut sugar).
