MUIS says halal certification up 12.5% in 2013

Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS), also known as the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore and the highest Islamic authority in-charge of Muslim affairs in Singapore, has issued 12.5% more halal certificates in 2013 over 2012.

According to a report by Channel NewsAsia, MUIS issued a record 23,005 halal certificates in 2013 against 20,436 certificates in 2012. Certificates are valid for one to two years.

MUIS is the sole authority for the administration and regulation of halal certification in Singapore. In 2013, the organisation certified more than 2,600 premises.
