The Touch of Ramadan Celebrations have been launched in Singapore by the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) with the theme Masyarakat Berjiwa Rahmah*: Rahmah Bermula Daripada Saya (Community of Rahmah: Rahmah Begins With Me).
Encouraging Muslims to espouse the spirit of rahmah, the celebrations focus on family, humanity and environment. Some of the activities under the event include distributing 10,000 donation cans (tabung Rahmah) to mosque madrasahs and encouraging mosque kindergarten students between the ages of five and 16 to save some of their daily pocket money. Collections received during Eid al Fitr (Eidulfitri) will go towards the Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund to help fellow students in need.
Other initiatives include Quran Hour, where all Muslims are encouraged to recite the Quran together across all mosques in Singapore on the eve of 17 Ramadhan** and the launch of a healthy recipe booklet on healthy cooking tailored for the Malay community to encourage healthier lifestyles. Healthy cooking roadshows and health screenings will also be done at six mosques islandwide to further expose the Muslim community to the concept of healthier lifestyle and living.

The Office of the Mufti has published a booklet entitled Ramadan for All: Reflections for Muslims in Singapore in conjunction with Ramadhan as the month of forgiveness and rahmah. The booklet aims to highlight how rahmah is an integral value in the lives of Muslims, and calls for a reflection on how readers can practise rahmah in their lives with the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as a role model.
The booklet will also answer some of the most frequently-asked questions on Ramadhan and its practices, and explain how rahmah is behind some of these practices.

**Laylatul qadr (لیلة القدر) refers to the first night the Quran was first transmitted to the prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Its anniversary is known to be an odd-numbered date in the last 10 days of Ramadhan. Many designate the 17th as that date. Prayers on laylatul qadr are believed to give exponentially more blessings than on any other night.
