The three-day
CelebFest Year End Sale (YES) 2017 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre is a bazaar and celebrity meet-and-greet that ends 12 November. Highlights include:
|
Personalised fragrances. The proprietor sells oud chips as well, and is a regular at both Celebfest and the MegaXpress events. |
|
HiqbaSG's most popular items are the shea butter sugar scrub, hydrating cream - moisturiser, sunscreen, makeup base, makeup remover or night cream, shea butter soap, rose hydrosol - an antiseptic and skin toner - and bukhoor (incense), made from frankincense and rose oil. The round wooden boxes in the centre are for burning bukhoor. |

Food is a large part of Celebfest. Chef Siti Mastura, right, is a celebrity chef who gave up her school in Singapore to go global. She collaborates with Taiwan celebrity Wu Chun as well as others in the region, flying back to Singapore on weekends to hold workshops with the SSA Culinary Institute (these are Skillsfuture-deductible for Singaporeans).
The seven-hour workshops are geared towards helping potential entrepreneurs bake for a living, with different workshops covering cakes, buns, choux pastries and cookies. Chef Siti is also happy to teach people with zero experience - "Dare me!" she said. The boy on the left is 12, and began learning with her when he was 10, she said. He is currently selling what he bakes, and has invested in a professional oven.
Watch Chef Siti's Youtube series on cooking. PS, her brownies - made on the spot with her own mix - are to die for - rich, flavourful and almost molten. |

Fashion is the other pillar at Celebfest. Lasqa has brought in abayas from Dubai which can also be worn as overcoats. Adult versions are behind her, and kids' sizes on the right. Many are in pastel shades and have lace accents in keeping with the latest trends. She herself loves black. The rectangular blocks in the foreground, sold by a family member, are scented soy wax blocks divided into cubes of six. Break off a cube and melt it in a burner for aromatherapy. Belal Adel, MD, Imanhood, said the company has a presence in Malaysia and Singapore. He designs the tee shirts and baby onesies, and also brings in items such as lights and wall hangings. Belal is wearing a tee that says 'pray'; the laurel leaf design says 'freedom' (حرية), and the rectangle, 'believer' (مؤمن). A variant of 'patience is beautiful' (صبرجميل) is on the tees behind Belal, and the balloon shapes say grateful people (الشَّاكِرِينَ) in Arabic, and in English, 'Grateful Ones don't have time to complain'.
