MCAS events offer education, volunteer and acting opportunities

The Muslim Converts' Association of Singapore (MCAS) has shared a number of upcoming events on Facebook, including:

Refresher course on Islam

Ustaz Syaaban s/o Isaahak Piperdy will introduce the essentials of Islam in terms of faith and practice and a prequel to other foundational courses.

Book review: Purification of the Heart

The workshop by Ustaz Muhsin Hamzah runs across four Saturdays, from 4 to 25 August, and shows how Islam deals with spiritual and psychological problems.

Crossroads 2018 casting call

Youth of Darul Arqam (YODA) organises a yearly play and is now doing a casting call, with training provided. Crossroads kickstarts discussions on contemporary social issues that concern youths through plays.

Fiqh for Ladies course 

Ustazah Nuraizah bte Amin will discuss ladies' rights within the framework of the religion as a colleague, daughter, wife and mother. Students will also learn about the fiqh (فقه) of travel, and around women's blood. Fiqh refers to the theory or philosphy of Islamic law.

MCAS is looking for volunteers to deliver qurban meat to the poor and needy. Drivers as well as bikers who have capacity for box storage are welcome to apply.

The Singapore Muslim Youth Debate 2018


The Singapore Muslim Youth Debate (SMYD), organised by YODA, just needs youths aged 15 to 25 form teams of four to participate. The champions will walk away with S$4,000, while the runners-up get S$2,000 in cash.

Dates: 8 September to 13 October
Prelims will be held on 8 and 15 September
Quarterfinals on 22 September
Semifinals on 29 September, and
Finals on 13 October
Only 12 teams will compete
