A total of 42 mosques in Singapore will offer their services to facilitate qurban (قُرْبَان) in 2020 for Muslims who wish to perform the annual ritual during Eid al-Adha (Hari Raya Aidiladha), the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) said.
Unlike in previous years, there will be no livestock imported to Singapore. Instead, mosques in Singapore will facilitate arrangements for the ritual to be performed in Australia, with the meat to be chilled and subsequently shipped to Singapore.
Individuals who wish to perform qurban can register directly with any of the 42 mosques. Registration will close on 24 July 2020, subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, each sheep will be priced from S$300 - S$330. Payments are to be made directly to the individual mosque.
Each mosque will offer up to 100 sheep; and are partnering individual vendors licensed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to import meat products. Mosques and appointed vendors which are participating in this year’s
modified qurban must comply with the food safety requirements of SFA for
the importation, storage and distribution of meat products.
Online registrations and transactions are highly encouraged, Muis said. Those who register successfully will receive their chilled and prepacked meat after the tashriq (التشريق) days. The tashriq days are 11 ro 13 Dhulhijjah, during which qurban is traditionally conducted
All participating mosques will adopt standard operating procedures, observe high hygiene standards, stagger distribution and collection slots and adhere to prevailing safety measures aligned to national guidelines. A portion of the meat will also be distributed to Muis’ zakat beneficiaries, and mosques may facilitate contactless deliveries to minimise contact and interactions.
