Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI) foundation to focus on Arab region

HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched the Mohammed Bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI) foundation, consolidating the work of 28 organisations focusing on fighting poverty and illness, disseminating knowledge and culture, empowering communities and driving innovation. Combined, the foundation's initiatives will implement over 1,400 human development programmes in more than 116 countries around the world.

Sheikh Mohammed said, "The world today is facing great challenges on all levels; in terrorism, wars and mass immigration and the only solution lies in human development which can be achieved by educating people and helping them build their future."

MBRGI will target over 130 million people over the coming years, with a focus on the Arab region. It will also launch the largest comprehensive development programme in the Arab region focusing on human development in an integrated manner starting with providing the basic human needs from health, fighting illiteracy and poverty through to providing knowledge, the dissemination of culture and the development of education. It will work in parallel on developing a new generation of young Arab leaders, supporting real change in the area of good governance in the region and providing the largest incubator for Arab innovators, scientists and researchers.

The primary basic goals of the new foundation are: fighting poverty; dissemination of knowledge; community empowerment and innovation for the future.

Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity & Humanitarian Foundation has partnered with the LuLu Group to distribute shopping vouchers to over 4,500 deserving Emirati families throughout the UAE for Ramadhan. 

Ibrahim Boumelha, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on behalf of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity & Humanitarian Foundation with Yusuff Ali MA, Managing Director of LuLu Group International, in the presence of Saleh Zaher Saleh Al Mazroui, General Manager of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity & Humanitarian Foundation, and Salim MA, Director of LuLu Group, and other top officials.

Worth AED3.5 million, the vouchers have face values of AED500 and AED1,000 and can be redeemed for food items throughout Ramadhan at any LuLu outlet in the UAE. Discounts amounting to AED157,500 will also be extended by the LuLu Group for the initiative.

Ibrahim Boumelha said, “More families will benefit from the project this time and this project is of great importance to the Foundation as it cooperates with its partners in charity within the UAE for the distribution of the smart cards (vouchers). We also extend our gratitude to LuLu Group for partnering with us for this noble cause.”

Yusuff Ali M.A. said, “The foundation offered its best efforts to serve residents in the region during Ramadhan to develop an action plan for early implementation to reach the beneficiaries in the right time avoiding last-minute rush.”
