The last batch of 340 pilgrims for Hajj 2017 left Singapore on 26 August, reports the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis). The first batch arrived in KSA on August 10.
Muis said on Facebook that 88 pilgrims from Halijah Travels and Abu Bakar Travel Services Consortium departed for Jeddah, KSA on 24 August 2017.
Eight hundred Singaporeans have gone for Hajj this year, up from 680 last year after the Saudi authorities increased Singapore's official Hajj quota in February.
Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Dr Yaacob Ibrahim is leading the Singapore Haj Delegation for Hajj 2017 as a gesture of the Singapore government's appreciation to KSA for the revised quota and to commemorate 40 years of bilateral ties. Dr Yaacob posted on his Facebook page yesterday that he has arrived safely in Makkah, KSA to perform the Hajj and has visited pilgrims at their accommodation in Shisha.
"They tell me that they are well settled and ready to embark on the Hajj rites. I am happy that our pilgrims are safe, in good health and in high spirits, as they make preparations for the peak of Hajj tomorrow," he said in his Facebook post.
Dr Ibrahim also met with KSA Minister for Hajj and Umrah HE Dr Mohammad Saleh bin Taher Benten, and thanked the Saudi Ministry of Haj and Umrah, other Saudi Hajj agencies like Muassasah Southeast Asian Pilgrims for their excellent services and help, as well as the Saudi Hajj Authority for enabling the Singapore Pilgrims’ Affairs Office (SPAO) to extend medical services to Australian pilgrims.
The SPAO comprises two Muis officials, five Medical Officers, 10 Nurses and five Assistant Pilgrim Officers.
