Over 1,000 asatizah provide Islamic education for nearly 30,000 people in Singapore

The contributions of 1,040 asatizah at 40 mosques that provide Islamic learning has benefited 28,900 people from the Muslim community this year, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has shared. More than 23,000 are attending structured programmes at the kindergartens, aLIVE* mosque madrasahs and via Adult Islamic Learning (ADIL) modules, while over 5,000 attended programmes held during school holidays and in the month of Ramadhan.

Farah Mahamoud Aljunied, Director, Curriculum Planning & Development, Muis, said that apart from delivering structured Islamic education, asatizah are role models to students and the community. “We are heartened to see educators who have not only been teaching for many years, touching the lives of hundreds of students over the years, but have also expanded their contributions beyond their classrooms. They share their teaching experience and knowledge as trainers, as mentors, and they even co-develop the curriculum. These teachers widen their influence and contributions to Islamic learning in various ways,” she said.

Of the 40 mosques offering programmes, 18 offer preschool education, 37 offer aLIVE classes for five- to 20-year-olds and 20 are offering ADIL classes.
