The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has
announced that the theme for the IDB Prize for Women’s Contribution to
Development for the year 2016 or 1437H will be Promoting the Rights of the Girl Child. The Prize competition is now
open for applications from both individuals and non-governmental
organisations.
The Prize for Women’s Contribution to Development
was established in 2006 (1427H) to reward and encourage accomplishments
of outstanding merit by women either aimed at or that resulted in
integrating women in the development process. It recognises women's
contributions to socioeconomic development of IDB member countries and
the Muslim communities in non-member countries.
The Prize is run
with a new theme each year and offers a cash award of US$50,000
for an individual woman and US$100,000 for a non-governmental
organisation winner.
The award ceremony will take place during the 41st Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors in Jakarta, Indonesia from 15 to 19 May 2016.
